THE KEJETIA REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT




The Kumasi Central Market also called the Kejetia market is an open-air market in the city of Greater Kumasi, the capital of Ashanti of Ghana. Kumasi Central Market is in the rain forest bioregion of Ashanti on the Ashantiland Peninsula. Kumasi is approximately 300 miles north of the Equator and 100 miles north of the Gulf of Guinea. The market is one of the largest Markets on the African Continent in the heart of the centre of greater Kumasi of Ghana. It has over 10,000 stores and stalls.

On July 28, 2018, Parliament of Ghana approved a loan facilities for the redevelopment and modernisation of the Kumasi Central Market.


The President, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Thursday, May 2, 2019, cut sod for the construction and redevelopment of the Kumasi Central market. The project is progressing steadily.

Upon completion, the redeveloped market will have six thousand, five hundred (6,500) leasable commercial spaces; five thousand, four hundred (5,400) closed stores; eight hundred (800) kiosks; fifty (50) restaurants; two hundred and ten (210) fishmonger and butcher stores; forty (40) livestock stores; and one thousand, eight hundred square meters (1,800m2) of community facilities.

Additionally, the project will also provide other essential facilities such as a waste treatment plant, a police station, a fire station, post offices, and an amphitheater.

The project was delayed due to issues with the relocation of traders. This challenge has been resolved and work is progressing steadily.


Kumasi and Ashanti have not been neglected by the government. They deserve more and more would be delivered to them in our second term, assured the President.
